Sustainability coffee

The first time when I started working in Vietnam, I was very impressive with the concept about 'fair trade for coffee'. The living of farmers growing coffee trees have been changed day by day. They have reduced their risks with prices whilst planting coffee trees. The stories relating to coffee trees were hot topic on the newspaper or news in Vietnam before.
The coffee prices were very high with booming in consuming at developed countries in the early 1990s and coffee trees became key economic activities in the developing countries. After that, a lot of developing countries in the tropical area concentrated expanding coffee plants area to export revenues. It is caused by the imbalance between demand and supply and the coffee prices decreased dramatically.
Following the next year, The International Coffee Organization (ICO) has encouraged members to develop a sustainable coffee economy. With agreement of coffee consumers who are ready to pay prices including good taste, aroma and producing with minimizing environmental degradation and social injustice, the certifications for coffee were established such as ‘bird friendly’, ‘fair trade’, ‘organic’, ‘rainforest alliance’, ‘shade-grown’.
A new future opens for farmers whose life depend on  the coffee bean.
